Throughout our evolution as a company – from Chilton Manufacturing Co. to the Chilton you know today – our commitment has remained steadfast: to continually improve and deliver the best quality possible.

1885

Chilton is established as a maker of paints, varnishes, and industrial coatings, with retail and manufacturing locations in Portland, Boston, and New York.

1936

Chilton is acquired by the Martens family; primarily selling stains and finishes to furniture makers nationwide.

1970s

Chilton begins selling unfinished pine furniture alongside its paints and finishes at its Exchange Street location in Portland.

1986

Chilton partners with furniture makers throughout Maine and the Midwest to introduce cherry hardwood furniture.

2014

Chilton is acquired by the Levin family. Exclusive furniture designs are introduced, and made available in domestically sourced North American hardwoods; cherry, maple, walnut, and white oak.

2025

Chilton establishes Portland as flagship location, featuring hardwood furniture designed and handmade in Maine.
