If you’re a Mainer or long time follower of Chilton Furniture Co., you may have noticed some changes in recent years. Almost five years ago, ownership of our two stores, located in Freeport and Scarborough, ME changed hands, and we began an evolution from a furniture store celebrating traditional styles to a design-led brand offering a selection of traditional and modern curated wood furniture along with a growing collection of original, exclusive designs.
Newly Renovated Freeport Showroom
The new Chilton aesthetic is simple and timeless, with echoes of Shaker, Scandinavian and even Japanese style. Each of these design influences is important to us because each is known for clean lines and emphasis on utility, quality and simplicity. The result is a look we feel is sophisticated and eye catching yet welcoming and unpretentious.

Furniture builders from these cultures also share a deep respect for natural materials. Our furniture designs aim to celebrate the warmth and natural beauty of wood. This is in part because wood remains one of the most sustainable and environmentally friendly of furniture building materials, and in part because we believe that wood, especially when domestically sourced, offers a connection to our land which in turn enhances the way we experience our daily lives. Our passion for building locally whenever possible also helps to decrease our carbon footprint. Our furniture continues to be all American made with domestically sourced timber; and more than half of our pieces are built locally, right here in Maine.
