Donation Program

At Chilton Furniture, our mission is to create wood furniture we believe in, work with partners we respect, and build a company our team members are passionate about.

Our community has supported us for many years, and we appreciate any opportunity to give back. We are partnering with Furniture Friends, a nonprofit organization that provides furniture to people in need throughout Greater Portland, to collect and donate gently used furniture to those who lack the financial resources to purchase furniture on their own. Among the clients Furniture Friends has served are people who have struggled with homelessness and/or substance abuse, those living with physical and mental disabilities, veterans, survivors of domestic violence, and immigrants beginning their new lives.

As our way of saying thank you for helping us support our community, we are offering a 10% discount on new furniture in exchange for the furniture you donate.

How it works:

When you donate your old furniture to us, we will give you a voucher for 10% off replacement furniture. For example, if you donate a table and chairs, you would receive a voucher for 10% off a new table and chairs. This discount voucher allows you to access sale pricing during non-sale periods.

Furniture can be dropped off at our Freeport Showroom–unfortunately we cannot pick up furniture from your home. Please email donations@chiltons.com to schedule a donation drop off time.

Want to donate your furniture, but need to use it until your new pieces are ready? Chilton will work with you to accommodate the discount program while allowing you to continue using your pieces for the duration of the build.

Your donation credit does not expire. We keep a record of when it’s redeemed and it’s good until it’s used! The discount voucher cannot be combined with other offers or sales on the same item. There is no limit to volume or frequency of donations, we will take everything we can.

What we need:

These individuals are starting from scratch, so we are collecting most categories of furniture. High priority items are dining tables (no longer than 5 feet), dining chairs, dressers (no longer than 60 inches), coffee tables, student desks (no longer than 48 inches), desk chairs, end tables, nightstands, metal bed frames, and working lamps with shades.

Please keep in mind that these individuals will not have large living spaces so we are especially grateful for items that work well in small homes. The donated furniture does not need to be cosmetically beautiful, but it must be structurally sound.

Furniture Friends will not accept the following items:

  • Items that are extremely heavy, over-sized, stained, soiled, excessively worn, full of pet hair, ripped, broken or show any trace of bedbugs

  • Items from smoking households

  • Items with glass

  • King-sized beds

  • Trundle Beds

  • Wooden bed frames

  • Headboards or foot boards

  • Sofa beds/sleep sofas

  • Outdoor or wicker furniture

  • Antique Chairs

  • Rocking Chairs

  • Entertainment centers

  • Armoires and China Cabinets

  • Hutches

  • Press or composite board items

  • Appliances, air conditioners, and built-in microwaves

  • TV’s

  • Bedding

  • Curtains or curtain hardware

  • Kitchenware, silverware, or bake-ware

  • Cribs or Crib Mattresses
